Evaluation essay is a kind of writing that presupposes your judgment on any possible issues: media, services, ideas, plans and so on. In the evaluation essay you will have to present your opinion on a certain issue, but you need to do it according to the following criteria: purpose, target audience, techniques used for presenting the issue, the level of objectivity.
In this article we would like to give a small example of the evaluation essay. And we are going to evaluate the film “Requiem for a Dream”.
Purpose. The main idea of the film is concentrated on the destructive impact of the drugs on our lives. We all have dreams and we want them to come true. It is one of the key elements of our happiness. People can make a lot to be happy and are ready to use all the possible means for that. However, some means are just an illusion that people are not able to distinguish from reality. So, the main purpose of the film is to prevent you from using drugs that have never made a single person happy.
Target audience. Definitely, the film appeals to the young people who usually want to get everything and in the short period of time without realizing the possible consequences of their deeds.
Techniques used. Actually, you will not see any special effects in this film. But the way the various events are described in the film is just amazing. You watch the film, and some anxious feelings and emotions are filling your heart and mind. It is really hard to describe all that. I will just tell that approximately a week, after watching the film you are really unwilling to talk to anybody.
The level of objectivity. I think that all the events in the film are described just the way they are. Nothing was invented or depicted in the unreal manner. What can happen to a person taking drugs? The main heroes will show you. You may be out of money and earn your dose with your body. You may go mad due to the great influence of the drugs on your psyche. You can just be imprisoned, since drugs are illegal.
